Evaluating Governance Compliance in the Western Australian Public Sector

Synopsis:

Public services across Australia are challenged by their governments to modernize and be more responsive to government priorities. This is also a high priority for the Western Australian (WA) Government highlighted in the WA Economic Audit Committee’s Final Report in November 2009.

To help facilitate some of the key recommendations articulated by the Economic Audit Committee the WA Parliament recently passed the Public Sector Reform Bill 2009 (now known as the Public Sector Reform Act 2010). The Act details important changes in the way the WA Public Sector is administered. Significantly, it merges the Independent Office of the Public Sector Standards Commissioner with the Public Sector Commission.

In his seminar, Dr Stansbury will be discussing the challenge of measuring public sector governance
performance in the above context. His seminar will outline key elements of the Public Sector Reform Act 2010 and Economic Audit Committee recommendations; the multi-methodological approach that is being used to evaluate governance compliance performance; and finally the WA Public Sector performance results for 2010.
