France, Europe and Asia: New Perspectives and Opportunities

Also available on NUS Webcast

What is the role of France in Asia? What can Asia expect from France and Europe? Is is often said that the 21st Century will be an Asian one and there is no denying that no global challenges can be adequately addressed, without Asia's participation; Asia is now a global actor in both the economic and strategic arenas. In this regard, France has a critical interest in this part of the world as a global as well as an Asia-Pacific power. At a time when Asian giants are world economic competitors and a number of emerging countries (often members of the G20) take on leading roles on many issues, South East Asia, being one of the most dynamic regions in the world, also has its role to play. France is committed to strengthening its relations with Singapore and the rest of ASEAN, to secure the prosperity and safety of Asia. At the same time, one cannot look at developments in Asia in isolation from those in Europe; beyond the daily headlines, Europe is changing its direction and this will be of benefit to Asia and beyond.
