Global Ideas and Public Sector Reforms – Theories and Development Features

Synopsis:

The lecture will present the neo-institutional theory of global ideas as spreading of formalized organizations around the world, primarily related to the works of professor John Meyer at Stanford University. First, the theory will be presented and contrasted with two other theories – instrumental theory and old institutional theory. Then the neo-institutional theory will be applied to main reform development trends, related to New Public Management and post-NPM. Lastly, the two alternative theories – instrumental and old institutional theory - will be used to discuss features of the two reform waves.
