In the Middle of the Future: Tom Plate on Asia

Synopsis:

Imagine a fast train to the future that has stations all across Asia. You miss the first one or two but hop on somewhere in the middle  — “in the middle of the future”, as Tom Plate puts it. That is what this American journalist and university professor did in the mid-1990s  when he launched America’s first major newspaper column devoted to Asia.

Fast forward two decades later, with his columns widely featured in leading newspapers of the world Prof Plate puts together a look-back in this newly released title by re-visiting 100 of his columns that have journeyed readers from 1995 to present day, as Asia dynamically rose and other regions dithered. This is also the first time where a collection of his best columns are being compiled into an anthology with unpublished material and vivid backstories displaying Asia resurgence as seen through the eyes of America’s only Asia-only columnist and author of the best-selling Giants of Asia series.
