Online People Power – How Social Media is Transforming our World

2011 was the year that saw social medial tools like Twitter and Facebook mobilise in a new direction, playing a key role in the Arab uprisings. BBC World News Presenter, Mishal Husain travelled to five Arab countries to document how young activists are, using these new tools, and to tell their stories - the protestors of Tunisia whose only route to the outside world was Facebook, the Libyans who risked everything to upload pictures onto You Tube, the exiles smuggling satellite phones into Syria, the Bahrainis whose only safe way to communicate was Skype, and the Egyptians who combined new media with old fashioned persuasion to get people onto the streets.

Mishal will share clips from her critically acclaimed BBC series and reflect on her experiences while filming, before engaging in a dialogue with Professor Kishore Mahbubani.
