- Synopsis:
-
What is sustainable development? What are some of the dynamics involved in implementing it in the field? The rural poor depend directly on the natural environment for their livelihoods, and yet that environment is increasingly stressed by population growth, commercial agriculture, climate change and other pressures. Solutions from agroforestry to more efficient cookstoves can offer sustainable paths for rural residents. A central challenge of development policy is to find ways to bring those solutions to scale.
