Synopsis:

“Embrace a world free of Nuclear Weapons”

The 29th of August was declared International Day against Nuclear Tests by the United Nations General Assembly through the adoption of resolution 64/35 initiated by the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2009. The day is to inform and educate the public on the importance of the nuclear test ban in creating a safer and more secure world. To support this initiative the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan are co-organising a panel discussion to address the role of Kazakhstan in championing the efforts of banning nuclear tests and promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Kazakhstan is the first country in history to close a nuclear test site on its territory. The panel of experts in the field of disarmament will be debating the feasibility of nuclear disarmament.
