Why do managers at all levels sacrifice success by shying away from making the tough decisions? In this presentation we review the characteristics of tough decisions; such as the realization that there is no solution that will please everyone. We will then discuss why managers often wimp out when faced with tough decisions, such as avoiding conflict or worrying that they may be taking a career risk. Most importantly, we will show how managers can overcome these common fears. We will present several principles which if followed will enable individuals to provide the kind of courageous leadership that creates operational and innovative excellence.
