Leonard Lim is a Research Associate at the Society and Identity cluster at the Institute of Policy Studies.

Leonard’s research interests are in the areas of social mobility and income inequality, and how they relate to class background, race and societal cohesion. He is also interested in education policies and their role in fostering mobility.

He holds a Masters in Economics (by Research) at the National University of Singapore. His thesis involved empirical work on the transmission of socio-economic status over multiple generations, the persistence of high status within families over time, and the implications for social mobility. He also holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (First Class Honours) in Economics from NUS.

Leonard was previously the assistant political editor at The Straits Times. There, he spent eight years reporting and editing on a range of topics, including social policy, politics, elections, education, and sports.
