Research Fellow (Arts, Culture and Media)

The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) is a policy research think-tank in the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

The Arts, Culture and Media cluster is looking to hire a Research Fellow for arts and cultural policy research. The Research Fellow will have the opportunity to develop and contribute research skills, domain knowledge and expertise to current and future research on the arts and culture in Singapore. The candidate will benefit from the exposure to intellectual exchange and networking through participation in conferences, closed-door discussions and other forums.

The job scope includes:

  • Setting research agendas
  • Coordinating data collection efforts
  • Editing books and writing monographs
  • Organising conferences and presenting findings to policymakers and other stakeholders

Applicants must:

  • Possess a Doctorate in the Social Sciences, preferably in an arts-related discipline, such as arts management, cultural studies, or theatre studies, from a reputed university;
  • Have strong interest and understanding of the issues affecting the arts and culture in Singapore;
  • Demonstrate experience in research, field work, data collection and data analysis;
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently.

What you can expect from the job:

The research cluster is trying to build up a new area of work to support evidence-driven policy development both in the public and people sectors of Singapore. The new researcher will work with the cluster head to initiate projects, seek clients for them, operationalise the projects and report on the outcomes. There is scope to publish the work on appropriate platforms – from those associated with the Institute and the School, to other academic or professional platforms.
