One-table Dinner with Mr Chee Wee Kiong


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has been instrumental in forging strong and strategic partnerships to secure Singapore’s competitive advantage and advance our interest internationally and in this region. Particularly in this time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, how will the Foreign Service continue to safeguard and advance Singapore’s interest? How can Singapore strengthen its institutional relations with other countries and further our strategic and economic positions within the region and internationally?

Mr Chee Wee Kiong, its Permanent Secretary, has agreed to spend the evening with the heads of IPS’ Corporate Associates to discuss the work of the MFA and its role in managing and conducting diplomatic relations between Singapore and other countries.


Mr CHEE Wee Kiong is currently Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Born in 1963, Mr Chee graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, First Class Honours from the University of London in 1985. He obtained a Master of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore in 1994, and a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University, United States in 1998.

Commissioned as an officer in the Republic of Singapore Air Force in 1982, Mr Chee received his Air Defence Artillery training both locally and in the US Army Air Defence Artillery School, including the US Air Command and Staff Course. From 1992, Mr Chee held a wide range of senior appointments such as Deputy Head Air Operations Department, Commander Singapore Air Defence Artillery, Commander Air Defence Brigade, Head Air Plans Department and Head Joint Plans Department.

In 2000, Mr Chee assumed the appointment of Commander Air Defence Systems Division, and was promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General the same year. He was subsequently appointed Chief of Staff (Air Staff) in 2001, and Director, Joint Operations and Planning Directorate in 2003.

Mr Chee was Director of the Security & Intelligence Division.

Mr Chee held a variety of directorships in a wide spectrum of public organizations including the Defence Science and Technology Agency, the National Youth Council, the Jurong Town Council Corporation, Singapore Technologies Logistics Pte Ltd, Singapore Technologies Electronics Ltd and the Public Utilities Board.
